JLD 2N – 1975 Manta A 1780s
Owner: Thomas Bampatsis
| On a cold December morning I hopped
on the bus to Bristol (!!!) to check out this manta A, the guy, (a car
mechanic) was very friendly and was willing to negotiate a sensible
price; so there I was (freezing cold that day) arrived late afternoon,
took the car out for a drive, hands were shaked and I was driving back
to Newcastle upon Tyne same day!
The car drove like a dream, very nippy, no problems the cool thing is the first people I came across in Newcastle (they were coming out of a pub and were crossing the street) gave me a thumbs up sign..! At the moment the car needs a tiny amount of work (the passenger side front wing has a hole but I've got myself a second hand replacement wing-bolt on fit pretty straightforward I guess ..the other major job is the front valance has rotten a bit and needs some welding) |

As for mods. ..the car is 100% standard 1780-S, but comes with extra driving lights/rear fog lights (found in the Rallye version-original lights)! Also I've got myself the 3 gauge unit found in the SRs and that needs fitting in and wiring ..and a sport SR steering wheel (again second hand) that is to replace the original, the interior is all beige vinyl with dark coloured carpet and white headlining (immaculate!) of the electrics the clock doesn't work, and the hazard light switch needs a look, also all the extra lights are wired but don't light up... |
| I don't drive this thing
everyday, but when I take her out people smile and wink at me, flash
their lights, honk their horns, I've been chased once by a lunatic in a
Mercedes trying to make me stop to ask me if I'm selling her...
The car is to have a set of new shoes -it has the original steel wheels on with Opel caps but I have a set of 5 Rostyles that I'm cleaning up and refurbishing at present. The history file for this Manta is impressive! |
