Manta A Modified

Owner: David Roland

Here's pictures of my Opel 57 series I drive it every day if its not raining.

In 1972 my dad bought me a 57R--bad idea as it was destroyed in 9 months. In 1974 I bought a 1972 57R series and installed Webbers etc. and wide tyres.

In 1980 I bought this 1973L for my girl friend, I also found a 74 and bought it about the same time, I crashed the 2nd 72 car!

I also have bought lots of parts cars.

The car in the pics. is the 73 as I built it in 1993.

Here is list of mods.:

  • Original blue

  • Original dealer installed air conditioning

  • 72 Rallye gages-wiper/washer controls

  • 72 Rallye springs shortened

  • 72 seats and door panels (all interior except dash/console dyed blue)

  • 75 dash board for extra vents

  • 75 big disk brakes

  • Relocated rear trailing links (to stop wheel spin on fast corners.

  • 69/70? flat top pistons (U.S.A. '71? forward were low comp dished)

  • Chevy valves/guides/springs 1.75 inch intake/1.50 inch exhaust
ported and flowed head and intake manifold.

  • Twin Webber 45mm with 38mm venturi (from Brabham F-2)

  • Light weight flywheel 14 lbs

  • Isky cam

  • Re-curved distributor with dampened vac adv (fantastic fuel mileage)

  • Cold air box with modified 75 FI air filter box (air comes through nose from in front of radiator)

  • BF Goodrich 50 series ta radials.

This thing is as much fun as my race car (Tiga sc-81)
can put around town all day or turn 7000 on the track!

I made the spoilers on the front and rear.

My girl friend (now wife) and I went on our honeymoon in this car--the Opel that is!
