Automatic transmission

Hydraulic torque converter with pump impeller, turbine and idler (tri locomotive principle)
Torque conversion by support of  idler over a taper roller bearing free-wheel
Planetary gear, 3-Gang-Ravigneaux-Getriebe
 a free-wheel and a band brake
Three forward gears, a reverse gear as well as idle position and parking lock
Selector lever arrangement on the floor tunnel

2 transmission types came to the installation:
Type of transmission "OH" for the engines 16 * and 16 S
Type of transmission "OG" for the engines 19 S * and 19 E *

Since automatic transmissions are very exactly with achievement and torque of the engines co-ordinated, B of models may do only "OH" - and/or in Ascona B /Manta. "OG" transmissions with the calibration C 5 or a higher calibration code to be inserted.

Function mode:

The OPEL automatic transmissions consist of a hydraulic torque converter and a three-speed planetary gearbox downstream.

Technical principle:
Two impellers, the pumping and the turbine, face each other in a housing filled with oil.

The pump impeller is propelled by the engine. It sets oil in motion that the turbine blade wheel propels.

With increasing number of revolutions that rises
Pressure in this system. The efficiency rises with removing number of revolutions difference between pumping and turbine, until finally pumping and turbine with same number of revolutions run and make an approximately loss-free power transmission possible.

Pumping and impeller work as hydraulic clutch.

By a third impeller, which idler, steered between pumping and turbine, the oil flow in such a way that a higher drive moment is delivered, i.e. more traction power. The hydraulic clutch became thereby the torque converter.

The torque converter works within a certain speed range as stepless transmission. From a certain number of revolutions difference between pump impeller and turbine on, he takes over the function of a clutch.

Travelling comfort, security, prestige

  • They can dedicate your whole attention to traffic.
  • Imagine once stop and Go-traffic on the motorway or in the rush hour.
With the OPEL AUTOMATIC no continuing switching, domes, no more leg work.
  • They save strength and nerves in city traffic.
  • The OPEL AUTOMATIC helps you in city traffic fuel to save.
  • There is no more clutch, which comes too fast.
  • They have the hands freely for steering.
  • Clutch do not replace gives it any longer.
  • Optimal utilization of engine performance.
  • Driving a car without jerking also at the mountain. Particularly well for trailer.
  • Decreased physical loads with driving a car.

Clutch

Clutch

Dry single plate clutch
Mechanical clutch manipulation with bowden cable
A control light in the instrument panel indicates, when placing behind is necessary (except with 12 the s-engine).

The clutch is the link between engine and transmission. It passes the torque on coming from the engine to the transmission or interrupts it.

The tasks of the clutch are:

To attach the mass of the vehicle without jerking and evenly to the engine.
To interrupt or manufacture the force river between engine and transmission while driving in the change.

The components of the clutch are:

  1. The pressure plate, it produces the contact pressure and is firmly bolted with the flywheel.

  2. The clutch disk,
she takes over the function of the connection of the engine strength.

  3. The lever arm
it presses the thrust washer on the feathers/springs of the pressure plate, is taken back, the force river is interrupted.

Manta B

The 2-Spoke wheel is alike in the standard design for the standard and luxury models.
For the Manta b "SR" as well as for the Manta Berlinetta is intended an Rallye execution with 4 spokes.
In the Manta b "GT/E" is inserted a 3-spoke. All steering wheels are provided with a soft wreath/ring coat.

As ball bearings trained lower steering shaft bearings replaces the past plastic bearing ring with felt sealing ring in the lower part of the guidance supporting tube. The ball bearing represents a closed, sealed and corrosion proof unit.

The ball bearing represents a closed, sealed and corrosion proof unit.

The lower steering column designed as torsion bar absorbs excessive demands of the steering linkage with accident-similar situations.

The stop sleeve pressed so far into the steering housing on both sides was void and/or was shortened.

The rack was extended due to the larger trace.
The different diameter of the racks is new, the diameter amounts to with vehicles with the engines 12S * and 16*22 mm and with vehicles with the engines 16S *, 19S * and 19 E* higher front axle load 24 mm.
The sockets in the steering housing were adapted to the two rack diameters.

The steering arms are similar together with the knuckles as one-piece forgings of heat treatable steel made - as with cadet C.
